In 2008 Louis Walpot and Aad Eggers started this study which lasted till 2015. The goal of this study was to design a small hypersonic UAV with a flight range of 1000 km and a speed of 2 km\/sec which can be used to investigate the problems associated with sustained hypersonic flight. In this study a lot of students from the TU Delft and one from InHolland have participated. During the study the following topics have been covered:<\/p>\n

  1. Choice of trajectory; ballistic or level flight<\/li>\n
  2. Choice of propulsion; ramjet, scram jet or rocket<\/li>\n
  3. Choice of airframe shape; derived from X15 shape or D21 shape and shape modifications<\/li>\n
  4. Project phases for an eventual project leading to a hypersonic UAV prototype<\/li>\n
  5. Building an aerodynamic data base both from known X15 and D21 documentation and CFD simulation<\/li>\n
  6. Preliminary structural design of airframe<\/li>\n
  7. Preliminary design of configurations propulsion system<\/li>\n
  8. Booster configurations for ascent trajectory<\/li>\n
  9. Wind tunnel test on a half scale model in the LTT of the TU Delft<\/li>\n
  10. Production methods and materials<\/li>\n
  11. Booster design and building of a test version for the half scale HypResearch<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n

    Together with Peter Datema, an old friend and colleague from the Dutch Space period, Aad is continuing now on a half scale RC model of HypResearch on a hobby basis.<\/p>\n

    Aad Eggers (1948) studeerde Vliegtuigbouwkunde aan de HTS te Haarlem. Van 1971 tot 2000 werkte hij bij Fokker Space als senior engineer advanced systems & engineering, waarna hij overstapte naar Dutch Space als vakspecialist Assembly Integration & Test tot 2006. Vervolgens was hij tot 2011 werkzaam bij AOES\/WLS als system and design engineer voor de Google Lunar X-prize Lander.\u00a0 Een van zijn hobby\u2019s is het bouwen van een eigen vliegtuig om er t.z.t. mee te kunnen vliegen.<\/em><\/p>\n
